4 About
The task description is used to help identify the actions and cognitive processes required for a user to achieve a distinct set of goals – goals which have already identified as core functionality during earlier research phases.
4.1 Task Description 1
“A user should be able to bookmark a web page in a single click”
4.1.1 User Job Story
“When I am visiting a web page, I want to be able to bookmark it, so that I can revisit it later”
4.1.2 Full Scale Scenario
- User opens browser.
- User navigates to web page.
- User clicks button to bookmark page.
4.1.3 As-Is Hierarchical Task Analysis – Task 1
A phase of as-is hierarchical task analysis was undertaken in order to help understand how users currently add bookmarks, on both Android and iOS devices.
Understanding, and comparing, the different approaches by each browser would allow the task to be broken down, expose any design patterns across browsers, and provide a better understanding of how to optimise the interactions required to complete the task.
On Android devices three most popular browsers, as identified by the user survey – Chrome, Firefox and Opera – were examined.
Adding a bookmark – Chrome (Android)
Adding a bookmark – Firefox (Android)
Adding a bookmark – Opera (Android)
4.2 Task Description 2
“A user should be able to find and revisit an existing bookmark easily.”
4.2.1 User Job Story
“When I need to access a bookmarked website, I want to be able to find it quickly, so that I can revisit it easily”
4.2.2 Full Scale Scenario
- User opens browser.
- User clicks button on browser to access Bookmarks.
- User locates bookmark and clicks it to revisit web page.
4.2.3 As-Is Hierarchical Task Analysis – Task 2
For the second task, the current processes, and interactions required by users to revisit a site via an existing bookmark, were analysed.
Again, on Android devices the process on Chrome, Firefox and Opera were examined.
Revisiting a bookmarked site – Chrome (Android)
Revisiting a bookmarked site – Firefox (Android)
Revisiting a bookmarked site – Opera (Android)
